program, Humphrey alumnus Dr. Ali Al-Lami was appointed by the Prime Minister to serve as the Climate Envoy of the Republic of Iraq. In his previous work as an adviser on environment and climate change in the Prime Minister's Office of Iraq, and as the Technical Deputy Minister for the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, Dr. Al-Lami made significant contributions to the development of the first national strategy for the environment, resulting in subsequent environmental legislation. When a major typhoon hit the islands in 2022, Governor Bag-Ao mobilized makeshift offices for relief operations, medical services, road clearing, and damage assessment. She actively worked with several agencies, officials, and non-governmental and international organizations to develop and start rebuilding resilient homes, schools, hospitals, and other critical infrastructure. Ms. Bago-Ao is a human rights lawyer and agrarian reform advocate who was a member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines from 2010 to 2019. While documenting endangered languages in his native Sierra Leone, he witnessed the devastating effects of drought and floods on communities. Inspired by that experience, his dream is to use sustainable agriculture to tackle climate change to improve the lives of subsistence farmers at risk from climate change. In collaboration with his American colleagues at UC Davis, they conducted an <strong><a style=\"color: #066c92;text-decoration: none\" href=\"https:\/\/globalaffairs.ucdavis.edu\/news\/global-aggies-davis-sierra-leone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">international research study<\/a><\/strong> on the feasibility of a market in Sierra Leone for cookstoves that run on ethanol made from a locally sourced plant known as cassava. Mr. Kailie was a Humphrey Fellow at University of California, Davis from
